RHINO - Climate Change

Together, we have knowledge, expertise, and strategy to secure the resources needed to save the Sumatran Rhino.  No single organization could successfully tackle this enormous challenge on its own.  At the IUCN Species Survival Commission, we are proud to convene this strange and uncommon alliance, and are confident we'll see the Sumatran Rhino thrive once more.

NOTES FROM MR. GRAY

Climate-Affected Animal Research

It is essential for an artist to fully understand their subject so that their work is well informed and saturated not only with color but saturated with meaning as well. This assignment will help you form your understanding of a specific endangered animal (of your choice from the continent you wish to visit at the zoo), the obstacles it faces, when they began facing them, why the obstacles happen, and how they can be addressed. This research will help guide you in your decisions about formulating your image that not only defines the animal you want to represent but the issues it faces in its struggle for survival. This research will ultimately become your exhibition text that will be hung next to your artwork in our exhibition.

You will thoughtfully answer each of these topics in-depth with a 4-5 sentence paragraph. Your answers must be informed by research so please list your sources. You will use at least three different resources to conduct your research. Please note that I do not need parenthetical citations, just a list of links where you found your information. Please stick to sources from the online resources learned about with Ms. Dugarte. Follow the instructions on creating an MLA bibliography.

Topics:

  • Describe the habitat where your animal lives, also describe what it eats, and how it lives in the wild. Keep in mind that this is the animal you will be using as your subject for your artwork.
  • Describe what climate-based obstacles the animal has faced to become endangered and answer why these factors are affecting the animal’s population.
  • Describe when the species began to feel the pressures of these obstacles and describe what ultimately caused them.
  • Address how these problems can be solved and the issues (if any) that keep the solution from happening.
