This commitment to educate young people and to empower them to have a transformative influence on their own lives and on the greater community stems from our founder, Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat.
Goal 3: Schools of the Sacred Heart commit themselves to educate to a social awareness which impels to action.
Criteria 6: Sacred Heart Educators work to develop in the students a lifelong commitment to service.Rooted in the Goals and Criteria with an emphasis on Goal III, Network Summer Service Projects are intended to provide students with immersive learning experiences that promote the inherent dignity of all humans and deepen students’ understanding of service to others. During these projects, students from across the Network come together to examine varying social justice issues and consider different world realities. These programs encourage critical analysis, informed action, and civic responsibility through direct service, advocacy, proximity, or community partnerships.
Summer Service Projects are sponsored by the Network and hosted by individual schools across the United States and Canada. Each fall, the Network office invites all schools to consider offering a project for that summer. Network Summer Service Projects are valuable experiences that have been serving Sacred Heart students for over 30 years. These Network sponsored projects would not be possible without the vision and leadership of Sacred Heart Educators and our schools’ generosity. The Network is incredibly grateful to all who participate in these projects and our partnership supporting young individuals.
